Fibromyalgia and Me

My name is Roberta and I have Fibromyalgia.
I was diagnosed back in February 2005. The doctors advice to me was to find a massage therapist and visit them 3-4 times per week and take a regimen of pain medications. I can not take the medication due to allergies, nor can I afford to visit a massage therapist 3-4 times per week.

Each day I wake up in pain. Some days are worse than others. I sometimes have trouble getting out of bed, walking, standing, sitting, combing my own hair, brushing my teeth and bathing. Not the way I pictured my life back when I was in High School.

I suffer from numbness in my hands, feet and legs. Have you ever stood up and fallen down? I do this several times a day. My worst fear is to one day not be able to stand at all.

I have some difficulty writing letters, typing, working on my crafts, housework or anything that involves using my hands for extended periods of time. I also have Carpul Tunnel syndrome.

My current obstacles are extreme fatigue, muscle and joint pain, headaches, and I think I might have a broken toe joint.

I have 4 children that I have raised over the past 16 years on my own. I was divorced and a single parent for most of their childhood.

I worked extremely long hours everyday and rarely saw them. My income at that time was from working in a factory processing seafood. I loved my job, but wished I could have more time with my children!

I am not able to do that job anymore, due to the strenuous repetitions, heavy lifting and being on my feet for 16-18 hours of the day.

I find that as each day goes by, I am losing more of the battle. My condition seems to be worsening. I find it very difficult to stand for than 10-15 minutes, or sit for more than 10-15 minutes at a time.

I am currently a Team Leader with Tupperware and have had to put my business on hold. While I enjoy sharing and teaching people about our products, I find it difficult to demonstrate the products for my host and her guests.

I absolutely love to cook, but I can no longer perform some of the things I need to do like: mixing stirring, chopping, peeling or lifting pans for draining or removing them from the oven or burners.

I guess to sum this up, my life has undergone some extreme changes over the last few years. My hope is to somehow improve my health so I can play with my grandchildren.
